As a former Baptist, I am still interested in this kind of thing. It pleases me to see that there are still Baptist church associations and independent organizations that support freedom of conscience, which was once a foundational belief for Baptists. The Southern Baptist Association which I was raised in no longer practices this distinction.
You don’t speak -for- Baptists, you only speak -to- Baptists.

So says Fangoria. By my estimates, it will be somewhere between terrible and god awful. Why ruin a perfectly good, creepy horror movie by Americanizing it? I imagine there will be the creepy cutaways and screams, and it’ll remove most of the strange elements and gender bending. Fuck all. This just puts me in a sour mood.
I still haven’t seen the movie because I was waiting...

Got this message this morning in MyToolkit about Medical Evaluation:
Complete. A decision has been reached regarding your medical review. Please look for a letter in the mail.
I can’t wait to get this letter in the mail. I’m pretty sure it means I’m cleared, based on my conversation with Tracey yesterday but I won’t be happy until I have the letter in hand!
medical clearance!!
I submitted that packet on April 3. And, at last, I got Unofficial, Over the Phone Clearance from my OMS nurse, Tracey (who is super nice, btw) today!! Now I have to wait for the official letter/(online) MyToolkit update, but basically I think I’m set.
This is the hardest part of the process, so hopefully soon I will have my invitation in hand!

In the spirit of somebody else’s post which I liked.
Should Do:
work on internship applications
take Plum to Ben Burton
finish perusing weekend newspapers in a reasonable amount of time
Will Do:
anxiously await tomorrow’s OMS nurse phone call
which will probably amount to nothing more than a recommendation that I call her on Thursday…
feel a little angsty about lost...

Sexual Assault Prevention Tips Guaranteed to Work!

Kat reposted a nice piece about true rape prevention, which reminded me of this little list I whipped up a few months ago. As I just did a college RA training yesterday, re-reading this made me laugh. I mean seriously, the “tips” they give potential victims are so condescending. It’s fun to turn the tables.

hurray, Peace Corps updates!
I had a real live phone conversation with my Peace Corps screening nurse today! And she said that I was at the top of the pile and that I should call her tomorrow!!! I don’t know what that means exactly, but I think it means that tomorrow I might have a better idea about what my prospects for eminent medical clearance look like….yesyesyesyes! Aaaah! I’m a little beside myself...

life update
Well, I accepted an Americorps VISTA position with a small non-proft organization in Alabama, but I have come to the conclusion that they are probably not an organization that I want to work for.
There is a certain level of chaos that I expect in the non-profit world: funding problems, sometimes fractious volunteer management, and general uncertainty are a part of the deal. But this is a...
what i love about battlestar galactica is that every episode someone different pisses me off…
